TOD’S AW18 Milan show had an array of warm, rich earthy tones with oranges, reds, greens, browns, whites and blacks seen on sumptuous fabrics like leather, sheepskin, fleece and suede. All looks were neutral and mainly monotoned or two-toned in colour. The style was suitable for the every-day with no mega-bright colours except sunburst yellows accented here and there. Autumnal-blocked colours were layered and built to complement the lavish fabrics used, while shoes varied from chunky loafers and hiker boots to suede sheepskin-lined crepe-soles wedge boots and the classic heeled boot. Bags accompanied all looks differing from small clutches to roomy, soft-leather totes.
Opening the show, Gigi Hadid walked with the chicest of autumn accessories, a French bulldog, tucked under her right arm. She wasn’t the only one to carry a dog as a chihuahua, terrier and Prince Charles Spaniel also starred, perfectly off-setting the array of top models walking the show. Her outfit featured an orange shirt, layered with a brown sheepskin fleece and a tri-toned fleece coat. Inky leather black trousers tucked into rusty sunset orange fur-lined boots completed the look, paired with a indulgently oversized handbag.
Her second look entailed a taupe leather utility dress partnered with a chunky belt, black loafers, padded jacket and accessorised with a white handbag. Gigi’s younger sister, Bella, also walked in the show sporting a look very similar to Gigi’s first outfit – a brown patent leather skirt, slouchy orange boots with a matching bum bag. Her second look – an all black leather biker ensemble was perhaps slightly out of place in the oversize fairly feminine collection.
All make up and hair were minimal and simple. Skin looked fresh and dewy with natural brows and bare eyes and lips. This is to be expected from Tod’s, where the au natural aesthetic seeps into more than just the beauty – once again they have succeeded, not in breaking any creative barriers, but in creating a uniform of wearable and reliable outfits for the Tod’s woman to rely on.
