GARETH PUGH is exhibiting a video installation piece titled VOID at The Old Selfridges Hotel as part of Selfridges’ multi-sensory exhibition, The Flipside. Open as part of the department store’s Radical Luxury campaign, the exhibition features an array of installations by innovative brands exploring the meaning of luxury in the modern world.

Upon entering the space appointed for Pugh’s work, visitors will find a room full of sand with two large screens parallel to each other showing Pugh’s film. It shows the designer walking with his mother along a beach in his hometown, Sunderland. Pugh’s intentions were to create a space where time dilates and also prompts an awareness of being. The film explores themes of escape, freedom and clarity, which are the designers most treasured luxuries.

Alongside Pugh’s piece, the exhibition showcases interactive experiences from Louis Vuitton, Mr Lyan, Thom Browne, Loewe, Google Pixel 2 and Byredo. In the coming weeks, Selfridges will be hosting a series of special events accompanying the exhibition.
