Burberry enlists multiple photographers for SS22 campaign

BURBERRY’S new Spring/Summer 2022 campaign offers a fresh look at the menswear and womenswear collections, not through one photographer’s lens but two. Photographer duo Mert and Marcus, as well as Chris Rhodes, were enlisted to shoot the campaign – offering their unique perspective of the garments.

Chris Rhodes’s contribution to the campaign was candid backstage photography from the Spring/Summer 2022 Menswear and Womenswear presentations, where the collections debuted. The images are stunning in their own right, but when juxtaposed, they become even more dynamic.

The intimacy of the pictures is emphasised when juxtaposed by Mert and Marcus’ studio session photographs. Burberry writes, “Individual artistic interpretations forge a bridge between two photographers … The differing perceptions allow the collections to transfigure in their different viewpoints.”

A saturated and slightly blurry close-up image of a bejewelled bodysuit is placed next to a photograph of three models dressed in all black standing against a white studio backdrop.

The compelling contrast of the images showcases each photographer’s particular vision and talents. Rhodes’ backstage photography offers a detailed and close look at the garments while Mert and Marcus capture the collections at large.

The campaign results from excellent collaboration and the willingness to let photographers indulge in their individual creative sensibilities.
