Burberry explores the great outdoors in their new campaign film

BURBERRY has gone back to its roots with its new campaign film Burberry Open Spaces that explores the beauty and limitless adventure of the great outdoors. Outdoor attire is central to Burberry’s design history – dating back to Thomas Burberry’s invention of gabardine, a tightly woven, waterproof fabric once frequently utilised by the fashion house.

Gabardine is so successful at weathering nature’s elements that polar explorers such as Roald Amundsen would wear Burberry on their expeditions. The new campaign captures the pioneering spirit stitched into the very fabric of Burberry’s brand identity.

The campaign is set in the English countryside and coastline with sweeping shots of heaven-high trees and white cliffs that collide with the great blue.  What begins as a stroll through an open field turns into the four models literally being swept off their feet and whisked away by an intangible force as they soar through various scenic landscapes.

The fantastical film, which is a collaboration between Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci and creative agency, Megaforce, concludes with the models linked together and suspended over the ocean.

Quilted and down outerwear featuring corduroy details or Burberry’s iconic tartan was the fashion focal point of the campaign.  The garments reference hunting apparel, which dates back to the brand’s origin.  Statement eyewear and structured leather bum bags accessorise the looks and provide a modern edge.  The enveloping outwear is layered with hooded sweatshirts and belts to create dynamic outfits.

Thomas Burberry once said that “inherent in every Burberry garment is freedom,” freedom afforded by apparel designed to be lived in with adventure in mind. So as the outdoor air becomes brisker with Autumn’s arrival and the even idea of a leisurely walk through the park begins to seem treacherous – Burberry has a stylish solution.  Because the great outdoors requires great outerwear.
