JUST launched exclusively at Harrods is Byredo’s latest fragrance, Cuir Obscur Eau de Parfum, a dark and dominating unisex scent that combines richly masculine leathery base notes with sweeter top notes such as amaretto, a texture with crunch that can almost be tasted. The fragrance has the energy of traditional, ‘60s Italian masculinity – think deeply tanned skin, brushed back sun-lightened hair, a well-worn leather jacket and a dangling cigarette.

Whilst this summery Mediterranean affair takes place, top notes of nutmeg and amaretto, complemented by patchouli, musk and rose mean this perfume defies gender pigeonholing. Further inspection brings this sweetness at the end, trailing behind the dominant leather yet insistent on being known.
