Cheap Monday returns! Nessa Barrett fronts iconic denim relaunch

CHEAP Monday is back, bringing its raw, edgy spirit to a new generation.

Originally launched in 2004, the brand made its highly-anticipated return on September 5th 2024, with a denim collection featuring American pop sensation Nessa Barrett. Known for her gothic pop sound and candidness about mental health, Barrett embodies the rebellious essence of Cheap Monday, inspiring a fresh wave of self-expression.

The campaign, titled “A Trip Through the Depths of Self,” embraces contradictions and diverse identities, capturing moods from “sunset sleaze” to “angel medusa,” “stardust emo” to “teddy pop punk.”

Cheap Monday’s Design Lead Alice Shulman reflects on the campaign: “With Nessa Barrett as our muse, we’re exploring paradoxes and the moods of the moment. It’s about having fun while dressing up, down, or out of the ordinary—taking on a character and letting it shift from day to day, hour to hour.”

Barrett’s own words echo this sentiment. “Cheap Monday’s unapologetic style mirrors my own, blending raw emotion with a gothic edge. Collaborating with them felt natural; they truly embody my bold and honest approach to self-expression,” she says.

The collection includes seven distinctive fits for women—ranging from the sleek “Sleezy Low” and “Sleezie High” to the more relaxed “Booty Bei” and “Flare Low.” For men, options include the “Rad Super,” “Looser,” and “Anti” fits. “Our debut drop is genre-defying denim, showcasing styles from indie sleaze stretch and bootcut to radically loose and anti-fit rigid designs,” Shulman explains. “We’ve played with finishes like dirt, spray, worn, and torn in shades of blue, black, and grey. These jeans capture the essence of Cheap Monday.”

Complementing the denim collection is a limited-edition jersey capsule featuring tanks, tops, and T-shirts. These pieces, designed to highlight Barrett’s diverse personas and the brand’s wide-ranging style, capture the dynamic nature of both Cheap Monday and its muse.

As Shulman puts it, “Cheap Monday continues to unite people through fashion and music. This launch is more than a new collection; it’s a tribute to the brand’s heritage and a step forward in inspiring self-expression for everyone.”
