Glass embraces the bustle of Lisbon at Vila Rodrigues

IF LISBON isn’t on your list of places to go, then you should put it at the top now. Having gained immense popularity on social media for its rustic architecture, steep hills, yellow trams and a new, booming culinary scene, the Portuguese capital has become everyone’s favourite European escape.

Sat perched on one of the city’s many hills is Vila Rodrigues, a newly restored 19-century house that has been transformed into boutique luxury accommodation. Made up of seven houses and five apartments, I stayed in Vila Rodrigues – a one bedroom standalone, equipped with a kitchen, living space and private patio.

Designed to blend in with the warm hues of the city and elevated by Cavalcanti Studio, the interior balances the tranquillity of a modern aesthetic, complete with wooden furniture and vast ceilings, with the addition of boho-chic touches that are inspired by the surroundings.

A quick 15 minute stroll and you’re in the heart of the sea-fronted chaos of Lisbon and only a five minute walk from Anthony Bourdain’s favourite seafood restaurant, Cervejaria Ramiro; close enough to walk everywhere without the hassle of crowds and too many steep streets.

With the homely element at the core of the stay at Vila Rodrigues, you can jump headfirst into relaxing and enjoying the captivating charm of the area without any pressure to remember a room number or wake up at a certain hour. They say when visiting a foreign place you should eat and drink like a local, so why not live like a local too?
