Glass finds a quiet moment in the city at The Emporium, Bulgaria

THE Emporium hides away in the peaceful, residential streets of Plovdiv – the second biggest town in Bulgaria. Often referred to as ‘The City of The Seven Hills’, Plovdiv has a vibrant and rich history of being a place where, over the centuries, cultures mixed and blended creating a unique and extraordinary atmosphere.

The Emporium is located just a short walk from the charming, cobbled streets of Plovdiv’s Old Town. Being submerged in the residential area allows us to witness the natural pace of the city and see how the locals enjoy the social life during the hot, summer days and evenings. On every corner you can spot cafes, bars and bakeries filled with people meeting for a quick coffee or to enjoy a Bulgarian Banitsa – a delicious filo pastry-filled mixture of eggs, yoghurt, and serene cheese.

The hard, concrete exterior of the hotel disguises the world of comfort and luxury. The Emporium has been designed by the world- renowned duo S+S Sundukowy Sisters, recognised for their passion to create a unique concept individual to each location. Situated in the former department store, the original ceilings and passageways have been kept to remind the visitors of the building’s former purpose. Brass accents, dusty pink tones, and natural wood, visible in the lobby and each of the suites, represent Bulgarian history and heritage.

Past the main lobby, the guests can find Champagne Bar & Cocktail Lounge where we decide to relax after a restless day of exploring the hills of Plovdiv. Those who prefer more traditional flavours can opt for a glass of champagne, however, we indulge ourselves in tasting amazing cocktails, including the signature recipes created specifically for The Emporium.

For guests who need a bit more to encapsulate the feeling of inner peace, the hotel offers an exclusive wellness and fitness zone; a space which allows you to unwind and enjoy a moment solely for yourself.

As the sun sets and the temperature drops, we move to sit in the outside courtyard. Big loungers, calming sound of the water and delicate notes of live jazz create a perfect escape from the fast-paced city. A perfect way to recharge before another adventurous day.
