Glass has a good time in Geneva, Switzerland

I’VE ARRIVED into Geneva, the second largest city in Switzerland. The gateway to the Alps for winter-sports enthusiasts, Geneva is also famed for dramatic views of Mont Blanc and the dominating eponymous Lake.

I’m staying at La Réserve Hotel & Spa, located in its own private grounds and a short ride from the city centre. The jewel in this historic hotel’s crown is Tsé Fung, the only Michelin starred Cantonese restaurant in Switzerland, with Frank Xu at the helm, who manages to pull in locals in addition to hotel guests.

The authentic atmosphere here is as sublime as the food with an extensive wine list that includes labels from La Réserve owner’s Michel Reybier’s vineyards. Other dining options on-property include the recently refurbished bar and restaurant, Loti, serving eclectic dishes from around the globe with an option to dine al fresco.

The city is home to the world of horology, with Geneva owning its own official Geneva Seal, which sets the standard for quality made Swiss watches. I embark on a three-hour beginner’s morning workshop at Initium, a school that offers courses in the intricate craft of watchmaking. Next time, I will to take the eight-hour class where I will be able to assemble my own bespoke watch to take home.

I also take up the recommendation of a Tuk-Tuk tour to familiarise myself with the city, passing along the quaint streets of the old town. During the excursion, I indulge in a sumptuous Swiss-cheese fondue feast, accompanied by a selection of locally produced wines.

And in the morning, before I depart, I am whizzed off to the Patek Philippe Museum, which showcases jaw-dropping collectables from their archive, antique and current collections spread across three floors, before I call time-up on my Geneva experience.
