THE FUTURE female is the constant material identity to which Edeline Lee strides towards and in her SS20 LFW presentation we were shown her sophisticated approach to this.
Wanting to bring “the real world” to the catwalk, the show was an immersive performance, featuring models and actors, written in collaboration with actor and writer, Sharon Horgan. The professionally trained actors, Kae Alexander, Sabrina Bartlett, Morfydd Clark, Crystal Clarke, Jessica Henwick, Ffion Jolly, Aisling Loftus, Tamzin Merchant, Deirdre Mullins, Olivia Ross and Isabel Adomakoh Young put on a seamless performance. The result – a refreshingly lively and personality-filled piece and welcome contrast after a weekend of more sombre shows.
Energy flooded into the room with models adorned in summer brights – blues, greens, reds and hints of yellow enraptured the audience. Firmly feminine, dresses flowed freely, floor-length, with wide sleeves creating a fluttering effect as the models walked by. Waists were accentuated by a belt or cinched by a seam, with some dresses fishtailing at the bottom to create a pleasing silhouette.
To complete the outfit, heeled pumps in nude tones were added, underneath which ankle socks in pops of primary colours caught the eye of the onlooker, leading one to contemplate the full ensemble rather than focusing on the dresses alone.
The SS20 collection was optimistic and emulated by the joyful presence created by the models and actors.
