ROXY Music’s Love is the Drug fills the show space, mustard velvet blazers and chocolate brown corduroy caps grace the runway and just like that, the 70s are back. Oliver Spencer uses the city of London to generate fashions for the latter half of 2018, using “his love affair with the culture, people and unique energy the city has to offer” as muse.
Using textures and warm and cold cityscape inspired shades, Spencer develops looks that become a juxtaposition of retro and contemporary. As rich hues bravely paired together convey a ‘70s vibe, Spencer showcases his ability to use trending softer off-whites and greys to create day-to-day pieces that still incorporate a conflict of modern nostalgia.
Leather weekend bags, necklaces, hoop earrings and the increasingly popular baker-boy caps look fittingly stylish along with leather shearling jackets, burgundy roll necks and quiff hairstyles. Although showcased by a cast of both male and female models, the looks appeared masculine. Spencer takes macho tailoring and reworks it for a unisex appeal creating the new by reverting back to the old.
