Louis Vuitton launch Crafty collection for 2020

LOUIS VUITTON are launching a reimagining of their classic monogram print. Rooted in the aesthetic of the underground art scene of 1980s New York, the pieces abstract the delicate brown and beige imagery associated with the brand to bold red, camel and cream combinations. Just as neo-expressionism that influences Louis Vuitton Crafty offered an exciting alternative to its minimal artistic forerunner, so these new pieces intensify the imagery of previous Louis Vuitton collections.

The classic Onthego, NéoNoé and Boite Chapeau Souple silhouettes are all boldly reimagined. This magnified iteration of the LV monogram is splashed across the leather outers, and handles, of the collection’s pieces, and graffitied with strokes of cream or scarlet. This brushwork speaks to the works of artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat – a striking marriage of textual monogram and abstracted daubs of colour. This era of art history marked the elevation of urban, graffiti-style work to the gallery. The Crafty collection emulates this embrace of the underground in its marriage of fresh, vibrant imagery, and classic silhouettes.
