OVER the past couple of months, the city of New York has turned its lights back on and the unforgettable buzz of its residents can be heard from day-to-night once again. Founded in the city that never sleeps, fashion’s new favourite cult-brand Khaite has unveiled its spring-summer 2022 collection made for the very women of these streets.
Looking deep into the creative routes of NYC and highlighting its ability for constant renewal and rebirth, Creative Director Catherine Holstein has designed a collection that pushes the contemporary aesthetic forward whilst maintaining couture techniques – further adding to the element of luxury that Khaite has become known for.
Horsehair layers, hand-sewn silk straps and precise boning within corsets are a few examples of how this relatively new brand has rivalled some of its long-standing competitors.

Sequins are a new addition to Khaite’s material roster. Introduced for SS22, they play a larger role than expected as they have become part of the structure’ either through hand-application of Swarovski crystals into knitwear for a cozier approach to evening-wear, or weaved into the seams of rippled gowns to emulate the curtains of The Four Seasons, originally designed by Marie Nichols.

Sticking to their successful muted palette, this season is painted in champagne golds, khaki and earthy hues reminiscent of oak and tobacco. Though their colours are refrained, the layering and material juxtapositions add dimensions to the collection mixing between soft focuses and translucent peaks.

With New York City at the heart of the brand and its aesthetic, the collections are designed for the Manhattan woman on-the-go. Scrap the high-heels, kitten heels are more reliable, tasseled clogs are the new trainer and fisherman sandals are far more practical than espadrilles. Totes and slouchy-structured leather bags are seen on the models proving that there is some chic-ness in utility.

The name of the collection is Till Tomorrow, a fitting title for an array of cohesive clothes that transcend time within this concrete jungle.
A predictable instant success for their loyal following starring some of Hollywood’s favourite names, but beyond the wearers, the brand is only five years old and has already become a name that demands attention on the New York Fashion Week schedule.
With that said, I am looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings for the Khaite girls.
