Oscar de la Renta Resort 2018

THE concept for Oscar de la Renta has always been sophisticated, stylish and mature. So there was no surprise when co-creative directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim kept to the brand’s ethos. However, both Garcia and Kim where able to keep the collection young and fresh making it appeal to a variety of ages.

Presented at the Rockefeller Centre rooftop garden in New York City, this high-rise location was an ideal venue for the show  − an embellished denim jacket featured sequined green leaves, flowers surrounding a monkey who seems to be drinking a very shiny martini. Tropical palm leaves decorated dresses, bodysuits and even rain jackets ideal for any weather. The decorative leafs created a subtle 3D-effect.

Staying true to the brand’s style and popularity, Garcia and Kim showcased their evening-wear and ball gowns. The leaf motif was seen throughout the collection and featured on the red evening dress with the garment giving the illusion of being strapless. The bodice was decorative with the same colour leaves, which circled around the waist and flowed down the skirt of the dress. Similarly, a form-fitting pencil dress had a silver sequinned bodice with the embellished leaves standing out against the black skirt.

More simple and casual garments were also seen, such as a tangerine orange dress with a single, large bow strap. A frayed tweed tartan style dress and top and trousers in black, red and white with hints of blue are fitting for the summer weather. A similar checked wide-leg trouser was also presented with what was a versatile white shirt dress.

The mix of party-wear, evening-wear and casual-wear allowed for a youthful feel while staying to  classic Oscar de la Renta style.
