The Macallan Marks 100 Years of 1926

THE MACALLAN is marking 100 years of its beloved 1926 vintage with a new ultra-limited release, the Romantica Collection.

Created from a single sherry-seasoned European oak cask laid down in 1986, the collection pairs whisky with contemporary art, revisiting the work of three artists closely linked to the original The Macallan 1926 releases: Sir Peter Blake, Valerio Adami and Michael Dillon.

The new editions draw on themes connected to the whisky’s journey from 1986 to 2026, with Blake’s piece imagining a gathering inside Easter Elchies House (home of The Macallan Estate), Adami revisits Janet “Nettie” Harbinson, the custodian overseeing The Macallan at the time the 1926 spirit was distilled, and Dillon focuses on the landscape surrounding the Speyside distillery.

Only 258 bottles have been produced, with 86 dedicated to each artist edition. Presented in European oak cases, each bottle is accompanied by a signed certificate, collection booklet and limited-edition giclée print linked to its respective artwork. The whisky itself spent 40 years maturing in a single cask before being bottled at 48.6% ABV, offering notes of apricot, peach and bittersweet toffee, alongside ginger, oak and woodsmoke, developing into darker flavours of cherry, treacle and cacao.

Jaume Ferras, Creative Director at The Macallan, says of the collection, “The Romantica Collection represents a rare convergence of time, creativity and craftsmanship. By revisiting the legacy of The Macallan 1926 through the eyes of Sir Peter Blake, Valerio Adami and Michael Dillon, we are celebrating the enduring role of artistic expression within the heritage of the brand.”
