Paris Fashion Week: Isabel Marant

A contrast to the stripped back minimalism of her last Autumn/Winter collection, Isabel Marant returned to her Paris bohemian roots – a move likely related to her upcoming H&M collaboration this November. Angelic white ruffle and lace mini-dresses were paired with black men´s blazers, while white peasant tops met with patent leather trousers. This constant juxtaposition between the romantic and tough was a theme of the collection as it has been of her brand – ruffles, transparent panels, blurred florals, lace and the ever-present white constantly met with lacing details, patent, leather and black. A very wearable collection overall, sometimes Marant went a little overboard with her flirt with the dark side – one all-black look featuring a lace bra-top, a low-cut patchwork mini-skirt and transparent puff-sleeve jacket came off less eccentric bohemian temptress, more plain strange in the context of the rest of the collection.

Powder pink low-slung denim shorts and jackets featured patchwork quilting details, so did white denim trousers, other elements of colour were dove blue linen blazers, a collarless jacket and lacy tops. A rattan like fabric formed into intriguing longline blazers and we fell quite in love with the easy appeal of a number of the lace and ruffle mini-dresses. This was a collection of trademark Marant pieces, coherent but perhaps not her most visionary one to date.
