Looks from the Alexander McQueen’s Pre AW20 Collection inspired by Art Nouveau

NEVER straying too far from its roots, Alexander McQueen’s Pre AW20 womenswear collection was inspired by the vast intricacies of the British countryside as well as this country’s art nouveau movement.

Merging the two opposites in this collection creates a relationship between the rawness of nature with the refined characteristics of modern art.

Specifically looking at the Art Nouveau in Scotland – the country where the founder Lee Alexander McQueen explored his heritage and the history of the land in his collections – Creative Director Sarah Burton created delicate pencil drawings to use on dresses and tulle.

Creating a new nouveau print, silk ruffles, iris embroideries and sequins all were incorporated into bringing the art alive. Textures were played with and materials were interchanged to enhance the juxtaposition in the Pre AW20 collection to present a woman who was both feminine and strong – the type of woman that the late Lee had in mind when starting his eponymous label.
