One of the new missions for many designers out there is to make slouch appear sexy, and however much of an impossibility that seems, Thakoon has kind of done it this season. Moreover, he’s done a little bit more too, on his 10th anniversary on the NYFW schedule no less. This still spurred the NY mainstay to power ahead and not look back, offering up what most of us really want for spring and summer, all loose silken slips with pretty feminine frills and embellishments. The feminine strain this season was consciously modern, avoiding imposing any extreme high-drama statements upon its wearer. That doesn’t mean that the handful of monochrome graphic print two pieces are off limits to the riskier risk-takers out there.
The predominant monochromes generally gave something for the other colours in Thakoon’s palette to cling on to, whilst tropical tinged prints here and there went their own way. An air of formality also found it’s way into the collection in the grey flannel, vaguely masculine and vaguely deconstructed, creations. While, as a whole, SS15 carried said vague sense of deconstruction, it was a type of deconstruction that still wanted to flatter the body, hugging all the right areas to put a smile on your face. It’s for sure that 10 years down the line Thakoon is still putting a smile on our faces as well, something which he’s always been pretty good at.
