A closer look at Aquazzura’s limited-edition Byzantine Clutch

AQUAZZURA, founded in Florence in 2011 by Colombian designer Edgardo Osorio, is known for its Italian craftsmanship and its oh-so-sexy and dramatic designs. And adding to the footwear is the brand’s latest release, the Byzantine Clutch Collection. A limited edition of just ten numbered clutches, they’re available exclusively through its flagship boutiques.

Drawing on the rich colours and intricate detailing of Byzantine mosaics—the ancient artworks made from gold and glass tiles used to decorate churches and palaces—as well as antique jewellery, the clutch features a geometric form crafted from a gold-toned alloy.

The finishing touch comes in the form of a mosaic of natural gemstones that include malachite, tiger’s eye, amethyst, coral and turquoise, with each stone set by hand, with subtle variations that make every one unique.

Inside, the clutch is lined in satin and finished with a metal plaque that notes its gemstone configuration and edition number, appealing to those who like arm candy and collectables.
