THE SHIFT happens quietly. One moment, I’m watching the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City blur past the car window; the next, the landscape has opened into wide skies and red-earthed roads lined with dragon fruit farms. By the time I reach Ke Ga Bay, the air smells different, saltier, softer, almost like a cue to breathe a little deeper.
Azerai Ke Ga Bay first opened in late 2020, though it feels far older in the way timeless places do. The resort sits on a pristine, five-kilometre sweep of white sand overlooking the East Sea, a setting so unspoiled it feels almost borrowed. What strikes me immediately is not grandeur, but quiet elegance, a sense that nothing here is trying to impress, and yet everything does.

Among the resort’s 46 suites and villas, the generously appointed suites offer views of either the gardens or the ocean, each framed by a contemporary, minimalist aesthetic. Interiors echo the surrounding landscape with soft palettes and sun-washed timber, creating a sense of calm that feels intentional rather than curated. The private-pool suites, tucked behind walled courtyards, feel like secret sanctuaries where time seems to stretch.

My suite opened directly onto a terrace where mornings began with the slow advance of tide and light. There’s a natural ease to the way the indoors spill gently into the outdoors, a reminder that this stretch of coast is the resort’s true centrepiece.
Most days took on an unhurried tempo. I drifted between the different pools, letting the sea breeze and shifting light decide when to move. At times the beach was so quiet it felt like having the coastline to myself, just the sound of the water and the occasional fishing boat carving the horizon.

Azerai’s connection with local culture is thoughtful rather than touristic. The “Fish Like a Local” experience introduces guests to traditional net casting along the shoreline, where guides take visitors out in circular basket boats still used by local fishing communities. It’s simple, hands-on and unexpectedly grounding, a reminder that Ke Ga is more than a postcard coastline.

Evenings were my favourite. Lanterns lit the garden pathways, the sky softened to lavender, and dinner often meant bare feet in the sand, with the waves providing background percussion. Nothing here tries too hard; it doesn’t need to.
In a country full of vibrant, high-tempo destinations, this corner of southeastern Vietnam offers something different — a place where the landscape does the storytelling, and where slowing down feels as natural as breathing.
