Dine in Storybook Style with Beatrix Potter Themed Delicacies at Mayfair’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House

WHO doesn’t relish a good afternoon tea? The impeccably cut sandwiches, clotted cream scones and miniature cakes, complete with dainty cups of golden brewed goodness – it is the quintessential British treat.

As children, however, many of us savoured the illustrated stories of Beatrix Potter instead — tales replete with endearing animal characters and imaginative splendour (The Tale of Peter Rabbit, anyone?).

So now, as a nod to the beloved British writer and illustrator’s 160th birthday, Mayfair’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House is launching the Tales of Beatrix Potter™ Afternoon Tea, a ‘playful, literary-inspired experience’ bringing the two English delights together under one storied, five-star roof.

Thanks to the partnership of Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd and Penguin Random House Children’s UK, Potter’s cherished characters will be brought back to life through this one-of-a-kind culinary offering. Held in the prestigious hotel’s Park Room, the event will feature a menu devised by Executive Chef Patrick O’Sullivan, with edible surprises such as five artfully crafted pastries and an amuse-bouche that looks almost too good to eat.

Fusing seasonal British ingredients with the wonder and whimsy of Potter’s world, just a few of the themed highlights include a white panna cotta chocolate egg inspired by Jemima Puddle‑Duck’s secret nest, a charming tree-tier cake resembling Mrs Tiggy‑Winkle’s Laundry Service and an elevated Earl Grey chocolate mousse which is playfully reminiscent of Mr McGregor’s Garden.

The finest finger sandwiches, classic scones and an extensive assortment of Newby teas also make an appearance, finished off with special keepsake menus exclusively designed by artist Neil Faulkner.

To ensure the event strikes a particularly memorable chord, The Park Room’s resident pianist will perform lively melodies each day, and the venue’s central table will take on the appearance of a captivating British countryside scene, just like those in which Potter’s tales were so famously set.
