Gender specifics

pr6Fresh from a groundbreaking London show that saw performances alongside Brit artist Sarah Lucas and US poet Quinn Latimer, Bolton-born, Berlin-based musician  Planningtorock – aka Jam Rostron – has just released new single Let’s Talk About Gender Baby: the statement-making opening track from acclaimed album All Love’s Legal. A reworking of her collaboration with The Knife, its dancefloor-friendly bassline, brass licks and glitchy percussion make for an instantly infectious concoction but most importantly finds Jam Rostron – born Janine – tackling issues of gender inequality head on.

With the follow-up to 2011’s album W Rostron’s first to be released as a gender-neutral and featuring titles such as “Misogyny Drop Dead” and “Patriarchy Over And Out”, there’s an intensely personal touch to what is an already-charged slice of atmospheric disco. Whatever your persuasion we defy you not to find common ground on this stunning new track.
