Givenchy debuts 2019 Resort Collection

INSPIRED by the original Hubert de Givenchy’s celebrated 1980s sport line, the Givenchy 2019 Resort collection again demonstrates Clare Waight Keller’s craftsmanship in adhering to the brand’s streetwise approach to luxury. The Birmingham-born designer draws on her British roots with the traditionally sharp tailoring and the finest day-to-night practicality, while incorporating playful and contemporary looks.

From minimalist black dresses to statement pieces in succulent red and faux fur, Givenchy modernises the ideas plucked from 1980s and ’90s nostalgia. Following the life-long interest in Japanese culture of Hubert de Givenchy, the collection also features Japanese-inspired prints and fabrics: a dégradé “Japanese Fire flower” cascading on a black dress and manga comics embellished on men’s bomber jackets and hoodies.

Clare Waight Keller asserts the four facets of her Givenchy man, the rebel, the boy, the gentleman and the lover, through fresh, sports-leaning silhouettes. Together with embroidered crystal starbursts and 3D sequins, the rich fabric mix of cashmere knits and bonded lace, ultra-lightweight nylons and injected puffer jackets creates appealingly contemporary aesthetics in both womenswear and menswear lines. From a 4G evening jacket in silk jacquard to Hawaiian silk shirts, the collection truly embodies the brand’s heritage.
