Glass discovers a perfectly positioned hotel in the heart of Reykjavik

ICELAND Parliament Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, has recently opened in the capital, Reykjavik. Superbly located within walking distance of the city’s lively squares, the famous Reykjavik Cathedral, Harpa concert hall and the trendy waterfront, it is also a few doors away from the Icelandic Parliament in Austurvollur Square, hence its name.

Iceland Parliament Hotel

Reconstruction of the historic parts of the property maintains the important heritage of the building, the most striking feature being the restoration of the old Landsímahúsið, perfectly blending with the hotel’s streamlined design and delivering artistic sophistication.

Upon entering the spacious lobby, home to the buzzy Telebar that at night becomes a destination for cocktails and pre-dinner drinks in its own right. I’m immediately drawn to the impressive array of colourful art and sculpture on display, part of the largest privately-owned art collection in Iceland, giving guests a unique view of these renowned pieces.

Lobby

The hotel comprises 163 lavish rooms and suites, complete with all the mod-cons you’d expect from a luxury establishment. If it’s relaxation you’re after, the property features a tranquil subterranean spa area, the best place to relax after touring the city, with traditional Icelandic geothermal hot tubs, a sauna and steam baths, and an extensive list of massage and wellness treatments.

Bar at Iceland Parliament Hotel

In keeping with the local culture, the Hjá Jóni restaurant welcomes guests and locals alike with its own separate street entrance. An extravagant buffet breakfast is served each morning with à la carte options. At lunchtime and in the evening, a concise menu offers tasty local delicacies with an international flair.

Geothermal Pool

For an elegant, luxuriant stay right in the heart of Reykjavik, Iceland Parliament Hotel fits the bill. Not only is it perfectly situated to tour the city from, but it is close to the Old Harbour, which offers spectacular scenes of the northern lights in the winter and the midnight sun during the high summer months.
