Glass discovers the beauty backstage at Chanel’s Cruise 2021/2022 show

SET among the limestone backdrop of the Carrières de Lumières, Chanel unveiled Virginie Viard’s refined 2021/22 Cruise collection. The collection was a love letter to Chanel’s admiration for and close friendship with French poet and filmmaker Jean Cocteau – who heralded Chanel as  “the finest dressmaker of the day” subsequently asking her to design costumes for three of his tragedies.

Drawing inspiration particularly from Cocteau’s black-and-white triumph, Testament of Orpheus, Virginie Viard translated the tones of the film into a medley of monochromatic tones and precise silhouettes. And the noir motif was seamlessly reflected in the makeup, with models adorned in rounded, rich black liner and pale translucent skin, layered with the occasional flush of rose pink.

Make-up artist Lucia Pica drew with the Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner, unapologetically framing the entire eye in a heavy line of Inky-black, conspicuously highlighting the feature. The eyeliner was applied with a softer edge, stretching upwards in double wings or smoked downwards, adding a dash of ’90s grunge.

Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation

The radiant skin was first prepped with the Hydra Beauty Micro Sérum and the Hydra Beauty Camellia Water Cream, subtlety tinted with Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation. Imbuing the skin with a silky finish, the foundation fell over the skin like a luminous veil, permeating the models with a transcendent quality.

Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rouge Profound

Using the Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rouge Profound, the cheeks were painted on the apples of the cheeks with the lightest touch, gently blooming towards the hairline. The strawberry-hued blush is infused with a delicate rose aroma and glowing particles, reinvigorating the skin.

Forming a coherent look, the lips were finished with Chanel’s new reflective and hydrating Rouge Coco Bloom lipstick in the shade Dream. Subversive yet subdued, the beauty was a masterful education in makeup artistry.
