Glass escapes the bustle of New Orleans at the Windsor Court Hotel

SITUATED in the heart of the Central Business District, in downtown New Orleans, the Windsor Court Hotel presents a deserved pause from its surrounding vibrant but busy city.

Upon arrival, I wandered across their classic, reclusive courtyard as I made my way to my grand Deluxe Suite. The room encapsulated the comforts of my home through a more traditional, yet contemporary design with the option of separating the living spaces with picturesque French doors.

Complete with a private dressing area, the spacious room welcomes guests with an experience that ensures they don’t need to leave anything behind.

Of the many options of places to dine, I decided upon The Grill Room, as its prestigious reputation in the city, being one of the ultimate fine dining destinations, was hard to turn down. Immediately intrigued by its extensive wine collection, one of the largest across New Orleans, I ordered a glass of the Castella di Ama and began to scour the menu.

Finding myself easily distracted by the wondrous talents of Culinary Director Igor Krichmar and Executive Chef Vlad Kogan, mixed with the impeccable views of the courtyard below, I asked one of the service team for their recommendations and decided to go with that. The modern American cuisine on offer settled any cravings and desires you may have, from starters like the Prime Fillet Tartare to entrees of Kurobuta Pork Tomahawk – there is something there for everyone.

And for those after something more traditional, I decided upon the Foie Gras Torchon, which included pain perdue, freshly picked strawberries and tartly sweet rhubarb, followed by the South Carolina Quail – an evening that satisfied my desire to ensure both cultures of New Orleans were gastronomically met.

The hotel is also the home to the Polo Club Lounge, an intimate setting ideal for those after a late evening drink. Surrounded by the surreal sounds of the live jazz band, a varied cocktail menu containing some unique specialised adaptions of the classics mixed with suggestions of stronger whiskeys and bourbons bring the spirit of New Orleans into this luxury establishment. While there is much to explore on the outside, the Windsor Court is the ideal place to revive yourself in so the party doesn’t have to stop but you can pause.
