WHEN one thinks of Monaco, it’s hard not to immediately conjure up thoughts of the prestigious Grand Prix or the opulence of its famous casino. But the coastal principality boasts many more glamorous attractions in addition to these iconic landmarks.
Nestled amidst Monte Carlo’s bustling streets lies Fairmont Monte Carlo – a timeless emblem of charming hospitality. Since opening in the 1970s, the hotel has become a hotspot for tourists and locals alike.

To begin, Fairmont Monte Carlo features 596 rooms and suites, making it an ideal choice for visitors looking to fully experience this luxurious district. Guests can enjoy rooms with stunning views of the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, the hotel’s private gardens, the iconic Monte Carlo Casino, or the famous hairpin turn – which is an especially sought-after view during the Formula 1 season.
After a series of recent renovations, the hotel rooms have been transformed, now featuring authentic Monégasque details and décor. Although ongoing renovations in other parts of the building may cause some occasional background noise, the hotel maintains a peaceful atmosphere. As I sit on the balcony of my room, I can hear the gentle sound of the sea lapping against the shore while seagulls circle above countless distant yachts and sailing boats.
To further embrace a tranquil lifestyle, the hotel’s spa is conveniently located just a stone’s throw away from Fairmont Monte Carlo’s two swimming pools. Drawing inspiration from Swiss nature, cosmic energy, and the flow of the sea, the spa offers eight treatment rooms, a hammam, a sauna, and a fitness suite.

All hotel guests can also enjoy additional pilates, yoga, aqua gym, and swimming classes, which are available at €90 an hour. Venturing to the fitness studio, I enjoy a one-hour yoga class led by Liesl, who carefully takes me through a revitalising morning practice.
If one is eager for a slightly more lively visit, the hotel’s beach club – Nikki Beach Monte Carlo – is on the building’s rooftop. Showcasing its iconic barefoot luxury vibe, the beach club offers delicious bites to eat and sky-high open-air swimming accompanied by a backing track of lo-fi dance beats.

For a touch of glamour and excitement, a visit to Nobu Monte Carlo is essential. As one of the hotel’s dining venues, Nobu offers a unique blend of Japanese-Peruvian cuisine along the Mediterranean coast. Renowned for its culinary excellence, Nobu consistently impresses and delights diners. Some standout menu items include the whitefish sashimi with dry miso, beef toban yaki, and the classic miso soup.

Alternatively, Amú – translating to ‘love’ in Monegasque – is another of the hotel’s restaurants. Intertwining Italian tradition with French Riviera gastronomy, Amú is the ideal destination for a relaxed, laid-back dining experience. Offering a buffet breakfast by day and nourishing, comforting dinners by night, Amú’s warmth radiates from dusk till dawn. Since opening in June 2023, Amú’s panoramic views of Port Hercule and the Principality of Monaco have hypnotised the restaurant’s happy diners.
It’s evident that all the work and revitalisation that has gone into Fairmont Monte Carlo has truly paid off – the renovations and glossy new interiors have breathed new life into the hotel. Bubbling with vivacity and brightness, Fairmont Monte Carlo is poised to remain a classic symbol of luxury for generations to enjoy.
