Glass reviews Green People’s Nordic Roots skincare range

YOU know those people who live to 112 years of age and put down their longevity to eating tons of cream and butter, smoking three cigars a day and drinking many wee drams of whiskey? You sort of know it’s not true, that the longevity is in spite of, not because of these habits and I have always known that “miracle” skin care regimes consisting of “soap and water and (fill in Gran’s Olay type product of choice)” are really down to genetics and avoiding the midday sun.

However, the complicated regime of what we are told we need, versus what we actually do, is absolutely a mixture of suggestions, trial and error, and often, too harsh products that result in peely skin or some other form of dermatitis. That’s why I lean towards anything that is targeted to sensitive skin, is organic, and based in “Phyto Science” which is just the science and evidence of the efficacy of plant-based materials.

One of the original and leading pioneers on this scene, Green People (founded in 1997) have launched their Nordic Roots skincare range that ticks all the right boxes for me – natural, organic, vegetarian and cruelty free. And their whole THING is to replenish what nature gave you (and gave Nordic women in abundance, if you ask me) and living daily urban life, took away. Their products are scent-free, gentle and deeply hydrating.

Also the outer packaging of this new range is rendered in an innovative and biodegradable substance known as Storch – which complements its all-natural skincare contents. Made up of 25 per cent grass, the material is both compostable and 100 per cent recyclable – an excitingly sustainable counterpart to the brand’s latest line.

As well as this, the products work, subtly, but noticeably. In that, “Have you been on holiday?” inquiry-provoking way in which friends tell you that you look better, but can’t quite put their finger on why.

You can get with a regime that is do-able, gentle, effective, and involves only four products in beautifully packaged and also compostable bottles. Nothing is scented, which is a BIG PLUS for skincare, for me, and everything feels like it’s telling your skin to calm the heck down.

Marine Facial Oil, 28ml, £28

So, for cleansing, there is the Cranberry Miceller Foam, which is an ideal make-up remover. It takes it off without feeling like you’ve been sandblasted or oiled within an inch of your life. The Apple Complex Moisturiser is a light and quickly absorbing lotion that feels great and leaves zero residue.

Finally, I use the Marine Facial Oil and Hyaluronic Booster Serum in conjunction, in the morning and in the evening as it provides a non-slick base for primer, for the day, and a non-cloying but nourishing skin treatment for sleep.
