PRESENTING maximalism at its finest, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli unveiled Valentino’s Haute Couture SS20 Collection in Paris with a collection comprised of structured silhouettes, extravagant bows and elaborate patterns – all enveloped in vibrant, saturated hues.
The collection embraces the primary themes of dream, fantasy and mystery, channelling classic Valentino couture in a flamboyant flurry of feathers, fishtails, organza, and sequins, just to name a few. The show paid homage to the Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung, embodying extrovert in every single way, shape and form.
“When you talk about couture, you talk about dreams, but dreams are the expression of something which is subconscious,” explains Piccioli. “It’s about the freedom of expressing yourself.” His statement works in cohesion with Carl Jung’s view that uniqueness is what makes all human beings identical.
Explosions of colour were conspicuous throughout the collection, exposing a composition of vivid purples, shocking pinks and mint greens. Prominent pieces included the scarlet fishtail gown, which exuded sophistication and grace as a classic emblem of Hollywood glam, in addition to a flamingo pink dress adorned in feathers, and an exquisitely detailed ensemble engulfed in a kimono-esque silhouette.
Doubtless, Piccioli succeeded in exploring extrovert extravagance in its purest, most authentic form.
