MOVE over deep-dish pizzas and hot dogs, everyone’s favourite steak house, Hawksmoor (it’s currently ranked as the World’s Best Steak Restaurant) has announced that it’ll be opening its second American outpost in Chicago.
Founded by childhood friends, Will Beckett and Huw Gott in 2006, Hawksmoor has seen a massive growth, first across London, then the UK, and 2021 saw its debut foray into the US with its New York restaurant in the Flatiron District.
Set to open in the first half of 2024 within the historic LaSalle Street Cable Car Powerhouse, the 16,500 square foot three-story landmark will play host to Hawksmoor Chicago. “We’ve been coming to Chicago for years to spend time in the city’s great restaurants and enjoying its incredible hospitality,” says Co-Founder Will Beckett.
“Chicago is the historical powerhouse of American beef, and when we found out about an actual powerhouse building, it felt like fate,” adds Huw Gott, Co-Founder, and so, it’s only natural then that the Windy City would welcome a Hawksmoor.

The announcement of Hawksmoor Chicago coincides with the publication of the company’s first annual impact report that’s driven by its founders and their obsession with quality and ethics.
As a well-respected company within the restaurant industry, not only does Hawksmoor have a whole host of awards under its belt, certification as one of the best employers in the country and a B Corporation, in the past year, it has become the world’s first carbon neutral steak restaurant group with plans for net zero status. At the heart of the brand though, is farming, produce, practices, sustainability, and maintaining welfare standards.
“Hopefully, the way we think about food and farming – which at its heart holds that the same things that guarantee high animal welfare and regenerative farming practices also guarantee great tasting beef, as well as the way we try to look after our teams and guests, seems to have resonated in the States. We can’t wait to continue trying to build something special on that side of the Atlantic,” says Gott.
