Heaven by Marc Jacobs joins forces with Kiko Kostadinov

SINCE its launch in September 2020, Heaven by Marc Jacobs has been a must-have and hot favourite on everyone’s wishlist. Bringing back the angsty teen aesthetic that he helped propel into the mainstream during his Perry Ellis days in the early 90s, Heaven has combined the hype of social media with our lost teenage years, creating cult favourites with every release, whether it be a knitted mini dress with matching gloves or an oversized off the shoulder jumper.

Now, combining forces with Kiko Kostadinov for a 16-piece capsule, ranging across both clothing and accessories, a further injection of high fashion is brought to the label.

Led by Laura and Deanna Fanning, the creative director’s of womenswear at Kostadinov, the onset of the collaboration began when the pair commissioned fellow London-based artist Connor Beesley to create a series of graphic work to use across the capsule, finding itself taken apart and patched, stamped and appliquéd onto various pieces.

Bringing the Fanning’s own playful touch to the Heaven codes, hallmark items are twisted with colour, texture and proportions, to bring new, more dramatised features to seasonal favourites. A notable touch from the sisters is their use of Heaven’s famed iconography, the star, finding itself at the forefront of accessories for this collab.

Looking deeper into how Heaven by Kiko Kostadinov echoes the latter’s own approach to womenswear, the focus on elevating their own millennial youth in the collection is presented through a lens of raw destruction.

The idea of a woman coming of age brings with it a duality, seeing femininity find itself hand-in-hand with rebellion, so translating this juxtaposition into design, the Nylon Puffy Bag is dissected with silicon handles, beaded jelly macrame cord is weaved within delicate knitted tops, and the Heaven double-headed bear is replaced by Beesley’s works.

While the new year may have brought with it a “new you”, Heaven by Kiko Kostadinov makes an enticing case of wishing to return to the past. And after all, the last time I checked fishnets were making their comeback!
