DRAWING from their wealth of experience, Stella McCartney and Hajime Sorayama have joined forces again for a new capsule collection. The collection marks the second collaboration between the two friends and merges McCartney’s iconic design approach with Sorayama’s avant-garde artworks.
For their first collaboration, Sorayama created an “S is for Sustainability” artwork which featured in McCartney’s A to Z Manifesto in 2021.

Sorayama quickly rose to fame following his initial career in advertising. After freelancing in Hollywood, he became renowned for his work intertwining robots with eroticism. For the capsule, the Japanese artist has created a new piece – a Vitruvian Woman in his super-realism style with Stella’s face.

Additionally, a long-time friend of Stella McCartney, Iris Law has been tapped as the face of the accompanying campaign. S
peaking on the collaboration, Stella McCartney said: “I came across Sorayama’s work in the late 90s when I was living in Paris and was absolutely mesmerised by its cheeky sensuality and airbrushed quality. I met with him when I was next in Japan; we have been friends and I have been collecting his art ever since. He makes me laugh in a naughty way, and I hope this capsule communicates the playfulness and mutual admiration we have between us.”

Similarly, Sorayama went on to say: “I don’t know much about fashion but I do know Stella has put her heart and soul into the brand and built it with extraordinary passion and determination. Let’s take care of ourselves and keep creating work. I love you.”

The collection has been teased multiple times throughout the year. In particular, pieces were exhibited at Stella McCartney’s Summer 2024 show and the brand’s presentation during Shanghai Fashion Week.
