FOR its UK debut, Experts Only transformed the Bedfordshire estate into an immersive day-to-night celebration of electronic music.
The greatest dance music events do not begin with the first track. They begin with a change in atmosphere, the moment when the ordinary world recedes and something more liberating takes its place. At Tofte Manor, that transition happens almost immediately.
Hidden within the Bedfordshire countryside, the historic estate feels far removed from the familiar architecture of the British festival circuit. Here, woodland paths replace concrete concourses, open lawns unfold around centuries-old buildings and music travels through a landscape that seems purpose-built for escape. For the UK debut of Experts Only, Tofte Manor became both the setting and the defining feature of John Summit’s first British open-air headline show.

Presented by Labyrinth Events, the all-day gathering marked Summit’s only UK appearance of 2026. It arrived following a period of extraordinary momentum for the Chicago-born DJ and producer, including sold-out performances at the O2 Academy Brixton and London’s O2 Arena. Yet trading the vastness of an arena for the comparative intimacy of a country estate allowed this latest milestone to feel more distinctive.
From the afternoon onwards, the grounds steadily shifted from pastoral calm into carefully orchestrated hedonism. Two stages were integrated into the landscape, creating an experience that invited exploration rather than containing the crowd within a single arena. Guests moved between woodland, lawns and food and drink spaces as the programme unfolded, with the estate’s natural contours giving each area its own atmosphere.
This was where the event’s scale became most effective. Tofte Manor feels intimate without ever appearing small, allowing thousands of people to share the same experience while preserving a sense of discovery. Away from the main stage, quieter corners offered space to pause before being drawn back towards the music. The result felt closer to entering a self-contained world than attending a conventional outdoor concert.
As daylight began to disappear behind the trees, the production revealed its full impact. Immersive visuals, precise lighting and a powerful sound system altered the character of the estate without overwhelming it. Historic architecture and dense woodland were illuminated in flashes, while the open sky became part of the visual composition. Rather than merely serving as a picturesque backdrop, Tofte Manor remained in constant conversation with the production.

That relationship between place and performance is central to Labyrinth Events’ appeal. Having previously welcomed Fatboy Slim, Jungle, Fred again.. and Innervisions’ Lost in a Moment, the estate has developed a reputation as one of the country’s most compelling independent music destinations. Its charm lies in the contrast between stately English serenity and the release of a full-scale electronic event.
By the time Summit took control, the anticipation accumulated across the day had become palpable. His set supplied the evening’s most concentrated surge of energy, moving through the muscular house sound that has taken him from clubs to some of the world’s largest venues. Yet the performance worked because it felt like the culmination of the environment around it, rather than an isolated headline spectacle.
Experts Only began as Summit’s record label and vehicle for creative freedom, but its first British edition demonstrated how naturally the concept translates into a physical experience. The emphasis was not simply on staging a headline set. It was on constructing an entire day around sound, movement and collective escape, with the setting treated as carefully as the line-up.
As darkness settled over the Bedfordshire countryside, the distinction between festival and landscape seemed to disappear. Lights cut through the trees, bass reverberated across the grounds and the manor became something unfamiliar, briefly removed from both its history and the world beyond its gates.
John Summit may have been the name that drew the crowd to Tofte Manor, but the estate transformed the performance into something greater.
