A MUCH-deserved accomplishment for UK candle maker, Jonathan Ward, has been recently secured as the coveted Claridge’s Hotel launches his aromas online and in their communal spaces.
With a great way to grace their newly e-commerce site, the self-taught fragrance auteur can now bless the air as he sells his ranges of candles and diffusers across the globe. Scents named Roscuro and Karthushya, that sound as good as they smell, are now widely available with thanks to Claridge’s as they keep to British roots.

The Karthushya scent will burn in the Claridge’s notable checkerboard lobby throughout the winter months as the candle carries an incredibly rich blend of spiced cognac birchwood and pine. With top notes of pine, rosemary, birch and dill seed, a centre of cognac, tobacco, black pepper and base notes of cedar, patchouli and amber, the fragrance smells as warm as the feeling of crowding round the burning fireplace in the early, dark evenings.

The Roscuro scent will surround the hotel’s lobby across the summer months as sensual scents of oud, amber and iris will fill the noses of lucky guests throughout the warm, sunny period. With top notes of prune, balanced seamlessly with a heart of iris root, honey and hay, laid with base notes of bailloni wood, amber, doblis leather, patchouli and tonka bean, the aroma ditches the classic floral summer fragrances and creates something new and exciting, enough to draw people indoors.
All candles are hand-poured from Ward’s London studio, and the scents are designed and blended using particularly sourced ingredients from ethical producers. Waxes are blended from organic coconut oil, vegetable wax and lost, discarded beeswax that has been certified 100% organic from The Soil Association.
A similar natural, cruelty free and mindful approach is followed during the process of the diffusers too, as each creation is poured using 20% fragrance oils and on an alcohol-free basis to promote slow evaporation.
