Designing since the age of 16, Chinese designer Ping He established her own label in 2011 having previously worked at Alexander McQueen and has also made various appearances at the London and Paris shows.
Ping He’s Elegant Resistance collection was shown at Freemason’s Hall in the early evening on Valentine’s Day. Present in the front row was British fashion model Daisy Lowe. The show’s music consisted of a live drummer situated at the end of the catwalk. The models appeared almost as if gliding their gold sneakers in a slow and steady manner.
The feel was very androgynous and was very balanced between feminine and masculine features. Materials included transparent plastic, fur, knitwear and leather. Looks included skirts, fur vests, jumpers with oversized hoods and “wing-like” fur detailing, shorts and tight fitted trousers. The colour palette consisted of gold, copper, black, brown, red and metallic silver.

Ping He described her inspiration for the collection, “With the internet and social media, I often feel the world is spinning really fast around me. I almost want to slow it down, make it gentler and softer. So, I closed my eyes and shut my ears and “the world is blurred in my eye” came to mind”.
She provided an intimate and interactive opportunity at the end of her show. When asked what her three favorite materials to work with were Ping He advised leather, performance materials and the third ‘varies depending on my mood’.
