LFW AW21: Emilia Wickstead

RENOWNED for its elegant, modern feminine designs, this season Emilia Wickstead steps it up a notch. Inspired by cinematography, her AW21 collection embodies the theme of new beginnings and confidence, offering both bold and sleek looks.

Presented in a film by Robin Mellor, the collection is set in a fuchsia pink interior, exhibiting a woman’s journey of exploring passion and intimacy.

Fuelled by the quickening pace and crescendo of the alluring instrumental, composed by Graz Mulcahy, the colour palette begins to unravel. Offset by the vibrant background, the collection’s main colours are soft greys, charcoals and deep purples with splashes of red, gold and cream.

The AW21 collection spans from the brand’s iconic elegance of A-line pleated skirts and ankle-grazing dresses to more refined looks offering a contemporary edge, demonstrated by soft tailoring trousers and structured blazers.

Wickstead displays a new take on evening-wear through off the shoulder dresses where one is paired with matching opera gloves. Here, contemporary and classicism meet to create a new space of intention and clarity.

The collection also features an array of high V-necks and wide-brimmed hats as well as cut-out details and split hems, embracing modesty yet teetering on the edge of something deeper and more sensual.

In a world that’s constantly changing, Wickstead’s collection encourages us to embrace these new beginnings. From opening with dark shades and finishing with lighter creams adorned with bright flowers, the show signals a transition from the dark times we experienced this past year to a more hopeful anticipation of a brighter future.
