London Collections: Men – Margaret Howell AW 14

The A/W 2014 collection by Margaret Howell for the London Collections: Men is characterised by relaxed, slightly oversized pieces presented in an overall conservative colour palette.  High quality fabrics give a neat and polished appearance, yet the pieces were styled to be relaxed looking and easy.  Turned up collars, untucked shirts and a slightly looser fit on the fresh-faced long-haired models gave the mood of an impish schoolboy.

Looks ranged from formal suits worn over casual tees and untucked cotton shirts, unkept bits poking out from underneath solid patterned turtlenecks and v-neck cable knit sweaters, and smart skinny ties with a touch of detail. The colour palette was quite traditional to Howell’s designs consisting of mainly navy blues and rich grays, and the instant recognition of  her high-quality fabrics and careful engineering were very prominent.

This collection would suit those wishing to purchase that versatile favourite staple that would last forever and actually get better with age.  Designing high-quality clothing that is aesthetically pleasing and functional is what Howell does best.
