GREEN-teal sapphires from Montana are the latest addition to Mejuri’s Salmon Gold collection, appearing across two rings, a charm, and a pair of earrings, marking the brand’s first use of American stones.
And the gold comes with an unusual provenance of its own as the salmon gold takes its name from the habitats its recovery helps restore – it’s extracted from leftover material at old placer mining sites in North America, where historical mining damaged rivers and streams used by salmon and other migratory fish.

Regeneration, a restoration and metals recovery social enterprise backed by the non-profit RESOLVE, carries out the work. Recovering the remaining gold goes hand in hand with repairing the land and rebuilding more natural waterways. Mejuri committed $1.5 million to Regeneration in 2023 and remains its exclusive jewellery partner.
For this capsule, the gold is refined in Italy by Italpreziosi, a woman-founded and led, B Corp-certified refinery, then made into jewellery by artisans in Thailand. Separate processing keeps the recovered material out of the refinery’s wider gold supply, allowing it to be traced through production; both Mejuri and Regeneration hallmarks appear on the finished pieces.
The Montana sapphires offers a little colour to a collection that featured lab-grown diamonds last year, and Mejuri describes the stones as fully traceable and sourced entirely from the state, with their naturally occurring green-teal shades sitting alongside forms inspired by water.

Nicole Ghosn, Mejuri’s senior director of product design, says, “Open Dome has always been about how we relate to nature – not by depicting it, but by echoing it. The forms we keep returning to are the ones water makes on its own: ripples expanding from a single point, waves that shift in scale and then soften back into the surface, the slow topography of a landscape seen from above. Fluidity is the design language, and it’s one we’re continuing to build into.”
There are practical limits to the collection’s production as the brand releases only one Salmon Gold capsule a year, with the quantity of gold dependent on restoration work. According to the brand, the partnership restored 1000 linear metres of streams and reclaimed 11 acres of upland habitat across sites in Alaska and the Yukon during 2025.
