MFW AW21: Dsquared2

WHAT do Canadian woods and party dresses have in common? The answer is the Dsquared2 women’s and men’s AW21 collection.

Showcasing a co-ed collection, the brand is preparing for the ultimate party once the restrictions lift. Think big is the message here. Out with the old, and in with the new is the motto as femininity is translated into miniskirts, tiaras and leather in the women’s AW21 collection.

Bodysuits and dresses are seen among strong outerwear pieces with tweed checks, thick knitted sweaters and shaggy wool and cashmere coats. Plaid shirts are seen tucked into corsets and shearling lined skater skirts nod to the menswear side of this extravaganza.

Into the woods we go as the uniform for men is unveiled. Lumberjack-meets-the-club is the vibe as orange-toned camouflage puffers, colour-blocking zip-up jerseys and biker-inspired blazer jackets rule the collection. Knitted jumpers, durable chinos and quilted coats pay homage to the home of the founders of the brand, Dean and Dan Caten who come from Canada.

However, the sequins aren’t exclusive to the women’s side of the collection. Tuxedos are complete with sheer tulle tops, shirts have pearl detailing and cowboy shirts have embroidered sequins – again, this is very much about throwing the sweatpants away and bringing back glamour.

With a new age dawning, the so-called Roaring Twenties are moments away from kicking off and the urge to dance, for freedom and to live freely is building up. When the time comes, there is no better party than a Dsquared2 one.
