MFW AW24: Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini

FILM BUFFS and fashion lovers rejoice, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini’s autumn-winter 2024 collection is an ode to the wonderful women featured throughout Alfred Hitchcock’s impressive discography.

Delving into the wardrobe of these intelligent, sharp women, Lorenzo Serafini utilises Hitchcock’s vision to inspire his contemporary interpretation of today’s femininity. From experimenting with various fabrications to a holistic sense of refinement, the seasonal offering demonstrates the creative director’s versatility and expertise.

Fabrics and materials have been carefully selected to heighten the collection’s sense of sophistication. Sensual, soft and seductive, the clothes melt around the body to convey a message of realism and transparency.

Meanwhile, traditional prints and patterns have been printed onto high-tech materials to add futuristic flair and subversion. Calling upon the art of optical illusion, the creative director also incorporated trompe l’oeil printing effects into the garments. A Japanese neoprene has been adorned with traditional woollen textures to infuse more masculine motifs into the collection.

Tempered and controlled by the director’s interest in historical Hitchcock-inspired silhouettes, the pieces all work cohesively to create a harmoniously elegant offering.

Subtle references to Hitchcock’s infamous films are scattered throughout the collection. For example, coats reveal cocooning designs, whereas wrap skirts pay homage to Psycho’s shower scene where Marion Crane makes an appearance wrapped in a bathing towel.

Echoing the textures of the garments, the AW24 accessories are not to be overlooked. In particular, the Lauren bag has been revisited for the new season. Showcased in fresh finishes, the iconic bag continues to compliment any ensemble.

Juxtaposing a vibrant kaleidoscope of hues with gentle neutral tones, the clothes contrast to create an eclectic display of playfulness. Similarly, for footwear, Lorenzo Serafini has collaborated with British luxury brand Malone Souliers. Crafting a series of statement shoes, including wearable flats, pointed pumps and satin slippers, the partnership has resulted in a beautiful mélange between the two distinct styles.

Full of contrasts and movement, the latest collection indicates Lorenzo Serafini’s ability to innovate and adapt his designs, while also effortlessly referencing the past.
