MFW SS20: Fendi

INSPIRED by the state of nostalgia, Fendi presents its SS20 collection. While not drawing influence from one particular era of fashion, the Italian fashion house ties together the strongest and most memorable elements from its vintage collections. Think of it as an exploration of creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi’s favourite fashion trends and pieces throughout the years.

Her first womenswear collection for Fendi, Venturini Fendi demonstrates how the fashion house is moving into a new era in a post-Lagerfeld world. If the previous collection was a goodbye to Fendi’s previous creative director, this one welcomes a new age.

Quilted-fabric is at the forefront of the collection, seen with its coats, bags, and skirts. In fact, the collection embraces the wonder of small details in design. Sequins, fringe, and beading all make an appearance, especially with their selection of baguette bags. Wonderfully Carrie Bradshaw-esque, these pieces take on ’90s/noughties element, far from the traditional minimalist bag’s design. There is even a subtle nod to the Sex and the City series with a adorably tiny sequin baguette necklace. These bags are the strongest pieces in the collection, fully taking on a state of nostalgia.

The collection also mixes together graphic prints, from floral to gingham, in a celebration of bold fashion. These elements come together in one of Fendi’s least understated and most eclectic collections yet.
