Milan Menswear AW17 Fendi

IF Fendi is anything, it is fashion with a dash of the unexpected and the Italian brand’s men’s AW 17 show did not disappoint. Upgraded basics, like track suits, blousons and blazers blended with pieces that were, in short, very Fendi. This means lots of fur, jazzy accessories and colour everywhere.

Long, luxurious mink coats mixed with bright headgear with a playful array of brights. Bubblegum pinks mixed with orange and grassy green to set off muted earth tones.

In a season marked with inevitable sobriety, Fendi brought a fun, optimistic collection but one with an underlying narrative. Political commentary blended into garments as literal words. Hemingway served as the source for some of the words, especially “listen” and “try”, which were shaved into garments. Other pieces were more literal, with “yellow” and “pink” appearing on appropriately coloured pieces.

Fendi purposefully does little advertising for its menswear, relying on reputation and brand loyalty to carry the day. This AW17 collection makes a deliberate splash into leisurewear and will no doubt be coveted by the brand lovers.
