NYFW SS15: Altuzarra

Joseph Altuzarra is New York’s ideal designer, designing ideal clothing that’s perfectly in tune with the ideals of the city’s highest social sets. Back in June it was for good reason that he was awarded with the CFDA Womenwear Designer of the year accolade, with SS15 marking a consecutive return to form following such honours. Encoded sexuality was the driving force, though as appearances goes it all felt fairly harmless, but in reality, Altuzarra’s reality that is, nothing was allowed to have it’s guard down. This meant that mostly everything was doting on the female form in a rather svelte show of sensuality, cut high and slitted high for good measure.

Don’t let the candy-cane gingham fool you, in each and every form it was being used with a knowing wink followed by a fresh but faintly kitschy leather-trimmed boucle jacket that made the sex appeal a little more prim and proper. From then on, Altuzarra continued to play to his strengths, not without having a few more lascivious moments with unabashedly see-through “naked” organza dresses that will double nicely as beachwear. This seasons design ideology gave the show a credible appeal until the end, casting a number of classic Altuzarra traits very well as a unified collection. Just try and fish out a better pencil skirt in New York over the remaining few days.
