Sometimes, obvious works. Tommy Hilfiger called on the gods of classic rock and roll for his SS15 Ready to Wear collection, and they answered. As Sgt Pepper screamed from a mod cap topping a pants suit, and bright military closures pinned a cape shut, it was almost too much. Except that it wasn’t. Not all of the pieces worked to pull Hilfiger’s rock inspiration forward for the modern woman, but there were spots of sheer fun.
Hilfiger shows are always a spectacle. Bright flower power sprinkled across a meandering lawn, almost the only reference to the warmer months. Sure, there were floaty printed gowns and printed knife pleats well above the knee, but fluffy sweaters were in the wrong season. Concert Ts went glam as sequined minidresses. The palette, though, was dark, metallic, and practically autumnal. Probably drawn from an album cover or two, it did make for a collection for a woman ready to take on the world.
