NYFW SS24: Tory Burch

TORY BURCH, the esteemed fashion designer and philanthropist, has just unveiled her brand’s new spring-summer 2024 collection at New York Fashion Week.

Having launched her eponymous label in 2004, Burch has always maintained a strong emphasis on empowering women through her designs and collections. Launching The Tory Burch Foundation in 2009, the creative entrepreneur worked to support fellow female practitioners through loans, mentoring and education.

Fast forward to now, Burch continues to work alongside women in distinguishing themselves within this competitive landscape. Previous collections demonstrate the ways in which Burch has infused her feminist attitude into her own practice – such as the brand’s autumn-winter 2023 offering.

The AW23 collection challenged perceptions of beauty and femininity through the use of reimagined sculpting and contouring techniques. The American lifestyle brand has continued to explore such concepts within the new spring-summer 2024 collection.

With modern sensibility as a focal point for the collection, Tory Burch has looked at the ways in which one can emancipate the female body within contemporary society.

Through reinterpreting crinoline silhouettes and adding volume, it is easy to see the designer’s signature techniques come through. Combining airy, flowing organza with nylon taffeta, crochet and neoprene, the collection exudes an effortlessly dynamic aesthetic.

“We evolved our signatures and experimented with new shapes, like micro-mini goddess dresses. Sculptural blazers and tunics with plunging U-necks mirror the aerodynamic curve of accessories.

Handbags are moulded to rest on the hip, sunglasses wrap around the face, and shoes are constructed entirely of round edges. This collection is designed to be lived in, to move with you, and to instil a sense of lightness and optimism,” said Tory Burch.

The models glided down the runway in a selection of calm, tonal looks – the gentle colour palette reiterating the relaxed, ethereal atmosphere of the collection. Splashes of bright yellow, jade greens and soft pink hues appear throughout the collection with accessories and subtle embellishments.

The signature Fleming handbag – a brand staple since 2014 – appeared on the runway in a newly reimagined silhouette – the minaudière. Meanwhile, the Deville bag appeared with new detailing and hardware in order to demonstrate further experimentation with the brand’s most popular styles.

Maintaining the peaceful ambience of the show, attendees were greeted with the sound of gentle bells as coats adorned with delicate silver bells paraded down the runway. Intended to soothe the wearer, the chiming intrinsically alludes to meditational practices and exercises.

Those with a keen eye may have also spotted the humorous cow-studded earrings and necklace on display throughout the offering – a play on the idiomatic expression: “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?”

Combining fluid silhouettes with humour, serenity and intrigue, Tory Burch’s SS24 collection exemplifies the designer’s irrefutably subversive flair and style.
