Paris Fashion Week: Acne Studios

To the tones of At Sea performed by Swedish opera singer Jussi Björling, Acne Studios and designer Jonny Johansson presented nothing less than a marine inspired collection – complete with white sailor caps, naval pea coats and mini boat prints. Being relatively new to the Paris catwalk, debuting just last season, the Swedish fashion house brings a distinct fresh breath of Scandinavian sea air and a harder look.

Less emphasis on volume this season translated into a more easily digestible collection – we enjoyed the naiveté of the theme translated into textures, details and colours – a bow closure on a denim dress took inspiration from traditional children’s sailor suits, black blouses were cut oversize, with short rolled up sleeves and deep v-necks to resemble sailor´s shirts and the palette was dominated by blues and monochrome with certain bright red, green and yellow exceptions. Particularly desirable – we would love to know more about their inspirational origin – were a handful of white intricately slashed leather jackets, dresses and trousers at the start of the show that really lifted the collection.
