Parma named Italy’s capital of culture for 2021

TRAVEL and tourism this year were, and still are, deeply affected by the current situation we are all living through. With the hope that next year will be different, the culture capitals of each country are being named. Italy’s northern region of Emilia Romagna is having a light shone on them as the main city Parma is named the Italian Capital Culture for 2021.

Castello Torrechiara

Steeped in history with 1,000-year-old Roman roads linking this place to Piacenza and Rimini, Parma is a true part of the country’s history. Next year the city will run an extensive programme of events throughout the course of the year, from concerts to dance performances to fairs that will showcase the area’s cuisine.

Labirinto Aeree

Here are some of Glass’ favourite highlights in Parma next year!

Running until 21 February 2021, the APE Parma Museum is putting on an exhibition titled Through The Avant-Garde, presenting the work of international artists like Alberto Burri, Alik Cavaliere and Piero Dorazio, to name a few.

Mirroring the artistic direction of the iconic Niccoli Gallery as an ode to its founder, Giuseppe Niccoli, the exhibition will continue his vision and reference some of the most important contemporary art around today.

Parma ham

Experiencing all that Parma has to offer in one event, Art Path: From Langhirano to Torrechiara combines nature, history, art, food and wine in one walk along historic vineyards. The six kilometres between the two towns is a trail that the whole family will be able to take part in as they immerse themselves in the works of six contemporary artists on their hike.

Piazza Garibaldi

Italy is known for its design so until February 14 at the Abbey of Valserena and Palazzo Pigorini the archives of the Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione will be showcased.

The heritage of Italian culture in terms of fashion and design during the 20th century will be explored with elements from Mario Bellini, Achille Castiglioni and Archizoom Associati, for example, to be shown to visitors.

Next year, be sure to go to Parma, they are ready for you.
