PMFW: Balmain

ON THE eve of PMFW closing day, Balmain showcased their SS19 collection. Maritime meets Michael, Jackson that is, is an effective description of the very true-to-brand collection.

The sequin pieces and styling brought the late star back to life, making the runway feel like a vision of an early ‘90s, MJ performance. Sequins where on centre stage, being featured in most looks, but the collection also carried a very maritime feel, with striped sailor inspired blazers, sweaters, and dresses for the women. Even though the collection was mainly menswear, womenswear was also featured. Asymmetrical dresses, some with flowy trains, were fitted to perfection on the models.

The brand knows to include denim into their looks and had models walking down the runway in Canadian tuxedos, with light denim head to toe. Balmain also joined in on the trend of incorporating American sports jerseys, à la ‘90s, much like Alexander Wang did a few weeks ago. That being said, in true Balmain style incorporating sequins, metallics and their much-loved shoulder pads.
