Saint Laurent unveils new short film for SS21

AFTER the roaring success of Lux Aeterna at the Cannes film festival in 2019, Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello has once again tapped Argentine-French filmmaker Gaspar Noé to interpret the Maison’s SS21 collection in a brand-new short film.

Aptly titled Summer of 21, the video takes place on a grand estate and stars the glamorous Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling. Set to Donna Summer’s I Feel Love performed by French musician SebastiAn, the film exudes an “unsettling strangeness” in tune with the ever-present uncertainty of recent times.

The “red, hazy, velvety light” that consumes the scenes evoke the glory years of a genre of Italian mystery-thriller known as Giallo, while the eerie atmosphere – somewhere “between terror and pleasure” – harkens back to the first Saint Laurent Rive Gauche boutiques of the Sixties.
