THE new premium rum offering from Diplomático introduces an innovative way to experience the spirit, reimagining the nature of luxury tasting.
To celebrate the launch of its new exclusive expression, Chancellor (with only 900 bottles released globally) the brand has created a bespoke musical composition designed to be enjoyed alongside the rum, turning each sip into part of a sensory journey.

Written and performed by internationally acclaimed Venezuelan pianist and composer Clara Rodriguez, the four-minute piece interprets the rum’s flavours, translating its tasting notes into sound.
The project was developed in collaboration with Professor Charles Spence, the Oxford experimental psychologist whose pioneering research explores how sound shapes flavour perception. His work suggests certain pitches and tempos can enhance sweetness and depth, creating a multi-sensory experience during the tasting.

Butterscotch warmth and vanilla notes are expressed through longer piano tones, higher-pitched melodies evoke the rum’s citrus brightness while deeper bass echoes the smokier hints of tobacco in the spirit.
Drawing on the shared Venezuelan heritage of both composer and brand, the cuatro and maracas mimic gusts of wind moving through sugar-cane fields, placing the listener directly within the landscape that inspires the spirit. As the composition unfolds, the tempo gradually builds up before ending in a lively and vibrant joropo – Venezuela’s national dance, highlighting the final tastes of spicy cinnamon, almonds and dried fruit.
With Rodriguez’s composition accompanying every sip, the rum reimagines how luxury spirits can be experienced – offering not only a drink but a soundtrack to the tasting itself.
